Hello everyone, how's your weekend? The weather for these past few months have been pretty wacky isn't it? One minute it is drizzling, the next minute it is blazing hot.
Because of this, some of us would have outbreaks on our faces, which is very frustrating.

However, I have found a temporary solution to reduce the acne and achieve a radiant glow in a week.

 

 

I was with my friend at Watsons, when we decided to try this out as it seems pretty promising, and I never regret it ever since. I religiously drank it every morning for a week and I was pretty amazed with the result for just a short period of time.

The ingredients in this product are as followed:

Hydrolysed Bird’s Nest is a Japan-patented ingredient (Patent No.: JP2003-095961; JP2005-206547; JP2002-068988). Bird’s Nest is rich in Epidermal Growth Factor (EGF), sialic acid (200 times higher than royal jelly), amino acids and minerals which are essential to promote skin cell regeneration, enhance skin healing and promote youthful-looking skin. It is produced via an enzymatic process at a small molecule size for effective and optimum absorption without using any chemicals and bleaching agents.

 

Chicken Cartilage (a source of hyaluronic acid, HA) keeps skin hydrated. Well-moisturised skin is radiant. HA functions as a sponge. It is located in the inner skin to attract and bind water within the cells and tissues and prevent the skin from drying out. HA also helps to maintain the balance of water and oil in the skin, helping skin to look smoother and more hydrated.

 

Fermented Yeast (a source of CoQ10) functions to replenish the depleted CoQ10 level in our body where CoQ10 has the ability to increase collagen and elastin production in the skin and promote skin cell turnover. It also helps to re-activate other antioxidants e.g. vitamin C and E that are crucial to healthy, glowing skin.

This can be a long term solution too, but it will burn a hole in your pocket!!

I will recommend to take this for 1.5 month then stop. Monitor your skin condition, until there is small breakout again, then buy it again to drink it. This way, it will ease your burden on your wallet :)

Filling the Cracks

Hello, it's been awhile since I contributed to this space and I'm glad to see that we have a new addition to our team to breathe more life into the blog. 

Have you also noticed the different articles? Our founder has realised our probable lack of depth and has an exciting new vision for Beautifyus, so wait for it! 

On a more personal note, I have recently completed a course of study. This means that while I'm not looking for a job, attempting to do pilates and learning to knit, I will be working on this above-mentioned vision that has been entrusted onto me.






All that aside, what cracks are we trying to fill today? 

This image here, is what I often liken to the texture of my skin. A huge factor being that good ol' plain water is never the beverage of my choice (and I say this while enjoying myself a nice tall glass of coke). 

Dry skin has plagued me for awhile and even more so in the last couple years where I have enjoyed the dry climate of Straya. Obviously, having skin like this isn't the most appealing and I have tried a myriad of products to "fill the cracks" with little or no success. The promises on labels disappointing time and again. Moisturizers that claim to fix my skin while I sleep, or body washes that are deeply hydrating...However, there might be some fault on my part especially with moisturizers. Not applying them on every night, or following through with the recommended period till results are meant to be visible. Despite that, I'm happy to announce that I think I might finally have found a product that "cures".

While I've only been using this product for three days, I can already see its effects and am thrilled to share.

This time, I let a tv ad get to me and I'm glad it did. So I went out looking for this product and found it on special for 5 bucks at Big W. 

Since I've purchased it, I use it once a day. Unlike the moisturizer, it isn't an extra step to my beauty regime. Everyone showers daily (I choose to believe so) and this hassle free product is just what I needed! Apart from smelling really nice, the product has delivered what it promised. The dry sore I had on my arm is healing and the cracks on my legs are fading. I know that this product works for me as I am not using anything else on my skin since using the Nivea In-shower Rich Body Lotion.

A little reminder: we need to be mindful that we have different skin types and might react differently. However, trying this product is inexpensive and might just be able to fix your dry skin like it has mine.

Clinique 3 step skin care kit

For the past 1.5 year, the condition of my skin has been pretty bad. i,e acne problem. It doesn't help that the weather in Singapore is humid, and also the use of BB cream for the past couple of years might play a part in it. 

Ladies, did you know that the usage of BB cream causes the skin to be oily thus causing acne as it clogs our pores!! This is because BB cream was actually manufactured for the Koreans who have done plastic surgery to their faces which is not applicable to ours. But due to the over publicizing of BB creams in our country, we ladies will just blindly purchased these without knowing whether its suitable for our skin type.

Ok back to the topic of my horrible skin. Recently when i was skyping with my sis, i noticed that  her skin was in a pretty good condition. So i asked her what product is she using, and she recommended Clinique 3 step skin care kit.

It comes in a white pouch that makes it look sophisticated. Do purchase this at the airport as it will be much cheaper than purchasing it in their retail outlet. So lets take a look at the items inside.

So step 1 would be cleansing the face with clinique liquid facial soap. According to their specialist, the liquid soap works better than the scrub. However do be prepared to pay slightly more. The texture of this liquid soap is gel based, is scent free and transparent in color. Its really mild to the skin, and gives a refreshing feel to your face. Its suitable for all skin type.

Step 2 of the skin care routine would be applying the clarifying lotion which in common term is called a toner. I must say that this toner is pretty strong. I am not a fan of toners as my skin is rather sensitive to alcohol. However, if i do want my skin to be clear of acne ,i have to use this.  The smell of this toner has a very strong alcoholic smell to it, however the good thing about it is that it does not have a burning sensation on my skin. 

 The solution of the clarifying lotion is slightly purplish but close to transparent when i poured it onto the cotton wool.

Look at the cotton wool after i have applied the clarifying lotion on my face. You can still see that there is still some dirt on my face even after washing my face with the liquid facial soap. Therefore, this is why toners are important in our skin care regime as it can remove the excess dirt that wasn't remove during step 1.

Step 3 which is the last step would be using the moisturizing gel. As you can see the color of the moisturizer is yellow,it is scent free and thin in texture. When applied, the skin feels very soft and subtle. But the only thing which i do not like about this would be it is slightly oily when applied to my face. However, most moisturizers are oily in nature as it is needed to hydrate the skin.


This 3 step skin care kit has to be used twice a day. I have been using this for a week now, and my skin has improved slightly. My acne have become smaller and less reddish. I have yet to see whether it is really effective, as i have just started using this. But i really do hope it helps! 

Review on Avance Dou Demaquillant Super (Makeup Removal)

Its always nice to look beautiful with all the wonderful makeup applied on us, however most makeup products these days are water resistant and are difficult to remove with just a cleanser, wipes or water. Therefore makeup removal was invented, but many of it aren't as good as they claim to be. So today, i will be introducing a makeup removal that i have discovered and i am rather pleased with the results.

The Avance Dou Demaquillant Super is rather good when it comes to removing eye makeup. So lets take a look of how good it is.

This was the eye makeup on me that day. Notice the brown eyeshadow as well as the black eyeliner that was applied on my eye.

Next, i have douched a cotton wool with Avance Dou Demaquillant Super makeup removal .

Leave the cotton wool on your eyes for 5 seconds. ( No rubbing motion is needed)

And as you can see, almost all of my eye makeup is removed with just one application of it, except for a little brown eyeshadow at the corner of my eyes.  So over all, i am pretty please with this makeup removal. Its really gentle on the skin, does not cause irritation and removes the makeup effectively and fast. This removal is pretty affordable as it is less than $30 for 100ml. And  is definitely more effective than Biore makeup wipes. Trust me :)

Acne Clear

I am going to apologise in advance that from henceforth all my pictures will most likely be from photo booth and therefore be lacking tremendously in quality. That terrible flash, right?!

I'm not sure how visible it is in the picture below but... Upon returning to Singapore last year and a change in the weather, my forehead began spotting these little pimply/acne things. They can't be scratched off, or popped, and I suspect they were mating and reproducing all over my forehead. I've never had this problem before and its been an on and off issue. Although the dry weather here seems to be benefitting my skin. 

Tilt your screen back, and tilt your head back. It really brings out the pimples/acne in the picture.

I was complaining about this to one of my girlfriends back then, when she recommended Acne Clear. At $4.80 or $4.40 a pop, this inexpensive super cheap product was worth a shot. I mean, clearly the entire acne population was thriving on my forehead, I didn't see how it could get any worse. So i headed down to Watsons first thing the next morning and searched for the easily overlooked product on the shelf full of brands.

Now, I swear by it. There's nothing it can't fix. It could be psychological, but I've applied it occasionally onto the pimples I get on my neck-chin (incase of confusion, its the area where neck meets chin. Where you can also often find le double chin).

What I believe it does is dries up the oil in these troublemakers. How I came to the conclusion? Constant use (being every night) would result in the skin on that area of the face to dry and be flaky. I can't guarantee that it works the same way for everyone but I believe it's a low price to pay if it actually works for you.

I'm almost half way through my tube, and I wished I had a backup because there ain't no Watsons where I'm at and I don't see myself consuming enough veggies to keep up with clear skin. Or so I'm told that's what veggies do?... :/ 

March Bellabox 2013 - Spring in your Step

Hey all, we are in the midst of March. How time flies and we are already heading to April. So since its the month of March, let's take a look at this month Bellabox.

                             

This month's edition box is the same as the February's edition. It is red, except that there is a sticker of two flowers stuck on the box to represent 'Spring"

So this was what was inside when i open the box. The color of the wrapper is gorgeous. It does give a feeling of spring!  Ok, let's move on to see what products are in it. ( Honestly speaking, i wasn't very pleased with what i have received)

1. Lemongrass House Shower Gel 260ml/$19.25

Description : All natural, eco-friendly massagw oil provides a luxurious out of body experience with gorgeous scents that stimulates the sense. Use it after a hard workout, with a loved one or as a moisturiser right out of the shower.

Why OH WHY!! Of all things, i have to get a bottle of shower gel. I don't need one!! I m happy with my current Johnson and Johnson shower cream. Anyway the packaging of this shower gel doesn't look attractive. It looks like the kind of shower gel which i can find and obtain from a motel or a chalet. But i have yet to try it, so we'll see how it goes.

2. Dr CI : Labo Super Washing Foam Ex 100ml/$47

Description : This special cleanser isn't like any other foam product you've used. The thick lather acts as a cushion that protects skin and an absorption agent that takes in dirt, oil and dead skin, carrying it away as its rinsed off.

OMG! ANOTHER FACIAL WASH PRODUCT! I have been receiving facial wash products from Bellabox every single month. If every of these products are good, then which should i buy? Anyway this brand was named as World's No.1 Medical Cosmetics. But honestly, i have never even heard of this brand. I am rather skeptical about this product.

3.  Dr CI: Labo Aqua- Collagen- Gel Super Moist Ex 50ml / $65 Description:  This unique gel formulation of this moisturiser allows over 120 skin-improving ingredients to be delivered deep down into your pores! Skin is firmed, brightened, smoothed. What more could you ask for. How about pore unclogging action and a barrier of protection against the elements? You got It!.
Yes, another product from the same brand. But the description of this seems very good. Also, over 23 millions jars of this gel have been sold worldwide. This shall be the first product from this month's box that i would try.
 

4. Mox Botanicals Lip Balm $19
Description:  Forget about little girl lip gloss, Mox Bonticals provides grown up high-end appeal with truely restorative ingredients. Keep your lips as young and fresh as they were when you had your first taste of watermelon-flavoured lip balm. Now you can satisfy your more sophisticated palate with Black Plum & Fig. Coconut Almondine and Yakima Valley Peppermint, to name just a fw of their delectable ingredients.

So apparently, this is a cult favorite at Bellabox website. I wonder why? I have not tried this yet, but the smell of it already puts me off as i do not like the smell and taste of coconut. Perhaps i shall give this away.

5. Wonderstruck Enchanted By Taylor Swift 50 ml/ $89 and 100ml/$109 Description:  Inspired by the excitement and blush of a new romance. Taylor Swift's new fragrance envelops you in a feeling of enchantment. An irresistible concoction of Wild berries, sugar0glazed champaca petals and white freesia, this scent leaves you completely enamored. Wonderstruck Enchanted's blend of creamy flowers and sensual woods capture you in a spellbinding allure much like the feeling of falling in love.
This might be many ladies' favorite item for this month's box. However, i do not like floral perfumes. This is more suitable for my sister. But too bad, she is in Australia now  :( This perfume is too strong in floral scent, and has a powdery smell to it. It is too sweet for my liking. Suited for ladies who love perfumes like Ralph Lauren's Romance, Marc Jacob's Daisy, etc.











So overall conclusion for this month's edition of Bellabox. I m quite disappointed with it. I would most probably unsubscribe to it, as the items are getting more and more lousy.  I am tired of receiving facial wash,scrubs,etc and moisturizer. Where are the makeup items and nail polishes?

Shokubutsu: Facial Foam

For those who have been following beautifyus, you should have known by now i have very sensitive skin.
It was one of those days when i complain to my bf about my face and how sensitive is it. So he decided to get for me something mild, something that can at least refresh my face.

Presenting to you : Shokubutsu Facial Foam

He bought for me this facial foam as he know this is mild and does not irritate the skin. Another reason he gotten it for me was because he said that it was very nice-smelling, which i agreed. I like the range of facial foam that shokubutsu come up with as the packaging is vibrant and tempting to get. Love the fruity smell that it gives and how refreshing my face feels after using it. I am currently using the whitening (orange)  and age defying (grapes) facial foam. I am not sure whether the formula they claim works as my skin did not get any fairer or it getting tighter. But i guess this is because you get what you pay for.

Effectiveness: 3/5 stars. This is because i did not see much improvement to my skin after using it,even though they claim to have different care for each facial foam. However, really love the smell and the refreshing feel to it.

Pricing: 4/5 stars. I don't know how much is this as it was given to me by my bf. But i believe it is less than $10 per bottle. This can be found in all supermarkets.

SK-II

I don't think this product needs any introduction. If you live in Singapore, the advertisement for this product is a common sight. Promising to give you "transparent" skin in just 7 days of use, this product is dubbed "miracle water".

Round 1 of usage:

I used this product in two phases. A couple of months ago, my mom brought this back home and i was quite excited to use it after having heard my friends rave about its effectiveness. I applied it every night for a week and realized that i had an allergic reaction to it. Prior to using it there was a small patch of red on my face, and with the continuous usage of SK-II, the red patch got into some sort of an "inflamed" stage. Thereafter, i ceased to use it.

Round 2 of usage:

Though i stopped using it, i continued to hear about its benefits from friends, and was envious of their vastly improved complexion. So, unwilling to resign to fate, i started using it again. This time, my face was clear of patches. After using it for about 3 days, the pimples on my forehead cleared. Today, a week after, i have yet to see the "transparent" skin that was promised, however, i've been told that i have gotten fairer. :)

Perhaps the effects of this bottle of miracle water takes a longer time for mere mortals like myself. I'm still hoping that prolonged usage will give me skin like the SK-II endorses.

Will update as soon as i see some major results!

Biore Makeup Remover Cleansing Gel

Having on so much make up all the time can take a toll on the skin. Over the years, i have tried many brands of make up removal. Starting for the type the you pour onto a piece of cotton wool before rubbing it over your face to remove make up. What i didn't like about these types of removers were that, having sensitive skin, the friction often caused the skin on my eyelids to peel. 

Last year i finally thought i found the answer with Biore's make up removing wipes. The wipes did work well, but being quite a busy person, having to wipe then wash my face was still a hassle. I finally discovered Biore's Makeup Remover Cleansing Gel on the shelves while shopping for a refill pack on the previously mentioned wipes. Less costly than the wipes and more convenient, this product now has a permanent space on my toilet shelf. 

All you have to do is use it as a face wash and all your make up comes off after about massaging it on and rinsing it off your face. The process might have to be repeated one more time if your make up is really thick. It leaves your face with a smooth feeling after too! It's about $9-10 per bottle and sold at Watsons, supermarkets and Mustafa. 

I recommend this product if you are looking for a make up remover that is convenient and effective.

FaceShop Brightening Rice Water Cleansing Foam

Description : Contains rice water(10%) Fit Protein orchid extract Vitamin B5 complex. Its creamy and cushiony texture eases handling and moisturizing ingredients leave skin feeling hydrated after cleansing by minimizing moisture loss.


Concept : A moisturizing and brightening cleansing line with rice water and Moringa oil. Moringa oil known as "purifying tree" in India has very strong detoxifying quality. People used to put grinded Moringa plant in the polluted river water to detoxify.
Review: I will be doing a quick review on this product.. This was given to my mum for a christmas present, therefore blah blah blah, ends up with me.
This product really does have a whitening effect on my face, infact it gives my face a slight glow as my face is always "dull" all the time.
In addition, it gives a refreshing feel to your face with its scented fragrance given to it. For the 1 minute you use the time to wash your face, it feels like your face is in heaven!! What's more, its suitable for all face type.


Pricing : I am not too sure how much it is as mention above, it was given as a christmas gift. However, i believe it is less than $20 as faceshop is known to be rather affordable.


Effectiveness : I would give it 4/5 smileys for this as it does not irritate my skin, and its sweet scented fragrance gives a boost to this product.

DHC Alpha Lipoic Acid

Description: Positive reinforcement. ALA helps support the regeneration of other antioxidants, including vitamin C and E, to help neutralize free radicals.


Review:  Having seen from magazines that DHC is a very popular health supplement of watsons, i decided to try this products (btw, there is a wide range of products for DHC). I bought this product basically for 2 purposes. The manufacturers claimed that this would improve your skin condition and maintain your weight by speeding up the metabolism rate. so i was thinking,since its a win-win situtation,why not try it...so scroll down to see what i think about it

Before i start, i would first like to give credits to michelin tyre man for being beautifyus guineapig... From the picture above, we can see some changes. I did see some changes in my faces, my complexion definately become fairer but did not really see much improvement in my metabolism rate. In fact, the function of maintaing your weight is just a gimmick for girls to buy this product.
There is also a side effect i felt when taking this product, which was being really thirsty..therefore i suggest drinking lots of water if you are taking this product.
So i guess,this is another product that is up to individual whether to buy it a not. However, i highly doubt that i will buy it again due to it making me so thirsty!!!

This is the outcome, and before i review it I just want to say that this nose doesn't belong to me..it belongs to my 12 year old cousin who is undergoing puberty,therefore explaining the many blackheads seen..(which can proves whether this product really works)

As you can see from the photos, my cousin's nose complexion really became fairer, however the removal of blackheads wasn't as good as it claimed..for those who have watch the advertisement for this product, i have no idea why the girl crying even if the product did effectively remove her blackhead.. in fact, after using the product, my cousin told me that she prefers using the blackhead extractor -_-''..so i think whether to purchase this product would be up to an individual.

This product really is a miracle product!! Like the equation shown above in the picture, even a rough orange peel can become a smooth orange if it uses this cream. After using for a week, my pimples were visibly gone, my complexion became fairer and the texture of my face was much smoother. Also, the smell of the cream is great..However,if you were to ask me whether it is effective on wrinkles, fine line and expression line, I am sorry, i have not reached that point of my life to have those lines. I am only 22 this year and do not have any of this on my face  : D .. so sorry to those who were looking for opinions on these problems.


Pricing : For such a small bottle with its given price, its rather costly for students like me.
